Supporting Complex Delivery at Snowy 2.0 Through Structural and Temporary Works

Hera Engineering has initially been engaged by Future Generation Joint Venture (FGJV) – a group comprising of Webuild, Clough and Lane Construction – to provide Temporary Works engineering services at Snowy 2.0.

We have been engaged for both permanent and temporary structural design services.

Snowy 2.0 will connect the Tantangara and Talbingo reservoirs via a 27-kilometre tunnel and a new underground power station.

Once complete, the project will underpin the future of clean energy in Australia by operating as a pumped-hydro battery, supporting grid stability and renewable energy integration.

Our responsibilities extend beyond design to include structural inspection services site wide, such as:

• Intake Diffuser structures with 2 m thick reinforced concrete walls and slabs forming the tunnel’s entry point (Figures 1 – 4).
• The Gate Shaft, a 50 m deep vertical excavation intersecting the headrace tunnel, where multiple high-risk inspections are carried out (Figure 5).

By providing engineering that enables practical construction outcomes in remote and technically demanding conditions, we are supporting the development of infrastructure aligned with Australia’s energy transition targets.
