Cairns Convention Centre Expansion

The Cairns Convention Center, a landmark project in Queensland, Australia, has recently seen its completion and now stands as a testament to innovative engineering and sustainable design. Managed by Lendlease, this project involved a $176 million investment that expanded the center’s capabilities significantly. The expansion added 10,500 square meters of space following major refurbishment works on the original building in 2021, allowing the center to now host over 60 events and conferences annually, bringing in more than 35,000 delegates to Cairns​​.

Our role focused on the post-tension design to support the large spans of up to 20 meters, a challenge that required careful planning and advanced finite element design techniques. This approach was pivotal in creating the center’s expansive, column-free spaces, enabling versatile and large-scale event hosting. The design and construction of the project highlighted our commitment to pushing the boundaries of engineering to achieve remarkable outcomes in both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
