Tall Buildings

Rising to the Challenge: Our expertise in tall and super-tall building engineering for urban growth

Pushing the Boundaries of what’s possible

Our innovative approach, combined with a deep understanding of structural engineering principles, has positioned us as a leader in the creation of high-rise structures that are not only architecturally striking but also safe, sustainable, and cost-effective. With a portfolio that includes some of the most iconic skyscrapers in Australia, such as The One and Queens Wharf in Brisbane and High Society in Canberra, we have demonstrated our ability to tackle complex challenges and deliver exceptional results. Our team of highly skilled engineers is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is possible, using cutting-edge technologies and materials to create buildings that stand the test of time. At Hera Engineering, we are committed to redefining the skyline with every project we undertake, ensuring that our tall buildings are not only feats of engineering but also valuable assets to the communities they serve.

Human comfort control

At Hera Engineering, our expertise in high-rise building design is complemented by our innovative approach to structural dynamics, particularly in the context of human comfort. We understand that building acceleration, both from wind loads (horizontal) and within floor structures (vertical), is a key aspect of the efficient structural design of tall buildings. Our team employs advanced analysis techniques and collaborates closely with leading wind consultants to ensure that our buildings provide a comfortable and safe environment for occupants.

In the majority of our projects in Australia, we have successfully eliminated the need for active damping systems through the clever design of lateral stability systems. This approach allows us to optimise the use of space while ensuring the structural integrity and comfort of our high-rise buildings. However, when working on exceptionally slender towers, where active dampers are essential for maintaining comfort and safety, we have effectively incorporated and coordinated these systems with the wind consultants. Our ability to seamlessly integrate active damping into our designs, when necessary, demonstrates our commitment to delivering tall buildings that are not only architecturally striking but also comfortable and secure for their occupants.

Excellence in long-span floor design

At Hera Engineering, we pride ourselves on our expertise in designing long-spanning floors that are not only structurally sound but also cater to the specific needs of each project. Our ability to work with a variety of materials, including post-tensioned concrete and structural steel, allows us to provide bespoke solutions that optimise the use of space and materials. Our designs focus on eliminating structural transfers, which enhances the flexibility and usability of the space, making it more adaptable to the evolving needs of the occupants.

We conduct a detailed analysis for each project to determine the best system to achieve the desired outcomes, considering factors such as load-bearing capacity, material efficiency, and construction feasibility. Our approach is client-centric, ensuring that we deliver solutions that align with our Clients’ vision and requirements.

Our commitment to excellence in long-span floor design is reflected in the success of our projects and the satisfaction of our clients. By staying at the forefront of technological advancements and best practices in the field, we continue to deliver innovative and efficient designs that set new standards in the industry.
