Student Accommodation
2024
We are delivering structural engineering services for the UWA New Student Accommodation (PBSA) in Perth. This 15-storey concrete structure is designed to accommodate the needs of modern student living while maintaining structural efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Our role focuses on engineering solutions that ensure durability, constructability, and long-term performance.
The building’s structural system utilizes post-tensioned (PT) slabs, chosen for their ability to achieve longer spans and thinner floor plates. This approach reduces overall material usage while maximizing usable floor space, creating more flexible layouts for accommodation units and communal areas. The PT slabs also enhance the speed of construction by minimizing the need for extensive formwork and reinforcing steel.
The in-situ concrete cores form the backbone of the structure, providing critical lateral stability to withstand environmental forces, including wind and seismic activity. These cores are designed to integrate seamlessly with the vertical and horizontal systems, ensuring the building’s stability and resilience over its lifecycle.
This project adds to our portfolio of student accommodation developments, demonstrating our expertise in delivering efficient structural designs for multi-storey residential buildings. Currently in the design phase, we continue to collaborate with UWA, Plus Architecture, and Lendlease to refine structural elements that align with the project’s vision and operational requirements.
