Construction at 609 Wellington Street is progressing rapidly at approximately one floor per week, supported by a predominantly precast concrete structural system.
The completed tower will stand at an impressive 100 metres tall. The structural system incorporates external load-bearing precast concrete walls, which also form a predominant architectural feature of the façade. A key feature of the structural system is the highly efficient in-situ post-tensioned (PT) floor slabs. The PT slab system has been designed to minimise the labour associated with onsite steel fixing typically required for conventional reinforced concrete slabs.
To reduce reliance on the primary core for lateral stability and reduce reinforcement demands, Hera Engineering also utilised the precast façade walls as lateral stability elements, in addition to their role in supporting gravity loads. This approach allowed the size of the core to be reduced while maintaining the required structural performance.
These types of initiatives are how we have helped the project achieve its very ambitious program, while also reducing the overall reinforcement costs of the project.
Working closely with the project team, Hera Engineering has supported Icon by providing not only structural engineering services, but also construction engineering services focused on streamlining construction processes and improving overall buildability.
