Student Accommodation
2018
Number of Stories:22
Building Height: 78m
This 22 storey building is a 571-bed high rise student accommodation located in central Perth. It is currently under construction and It is expected to be completed by early to mid 2018.
Hera Engineering developed the structural system in conjunction with the architect prior to lodgement of Development Approval. This approach was fundamental to assist with the removal of major transfer elements. Our early involvement secured a more efficient design which resulted the most economical to build. During the tender process, builders explored alternative structural solutions but the marked responded that our concept was by far the most economical.
We have utilized hollow core precast floors, external precast walls and jump-form in-situ concrete core to achieve more rapid construction. This construction methodology proved not only to be the most economical but also the quickest.
With our fine understanding of structural lateral stability, we managed to optimise the stiffness of the building and minimise the amount of reinforcement required in the shear walls. We used high strength concrete to simplify construction and improve vertical regularity. This allow the architect to maintain the same type of room layout throughout the elevation of the building
We have also eliminated all requirements for piling and the building is founded on a 1.5m deep raft.
In this project, we have demonstrated how we can achieve economy in the design whilst maintaining the architectural approach. This is only possible if we are involved prior to lodgement of Development Approval. At this stage, we can add the most value and create the most efficient structural system.
