Our engagement in the Aston 238 project in Leederville, Perth, showcased our expertise in structural engineering, with a specific focus on post-tension design alongside innovative construction methodologies. Tasked by Suida International, we undertook a critical “peer review” of the existing structural design for the 238 Oxford Street project. The original scheme presented challenges, notably a significant number of transfer beams that escalated construction costs and extended timelines.

Our contribution as a post-tension designer was pivotal. We proposed an alternative design strategy that eliminated the need for transfer beams, thereby optimizing the structural efficiency of the building. This adjustment allowed for the basement level to be raised approximately 1 meter higher than initially planned, significantly impacting the project’s overall feasibility and cost-effectiveness.

Additionally, we adopted a top-down construction method for the basement. This approach not only minimized the duration of the construction phase but also reduced the necessity for extensive dewatering on site, showcasing our commitment to efficient and environmentally considerate construction practices.

The project, developed by Suida International and designed by MJA Studio, comprises 47 high-quality apartments spread over five levels​​​​. Our role extended beyond the “peer review” to actively redefining the structural blueprint of Aston 238, ensuring a balance between aesthetic appeal, functionality, and structural integrity. The successful implementation of post-tensioning techniques underlines our capability to innovate and adapt to the unique demands of each project, reinforcing the structure without compromising on design or spatial efficiency.

Our work on Aston 238 not only highlights our proficiency in structural engineering and post-tension design but also reflects our dedication to delivering projects that meet our clients’ expectations in terms of cost, time, and quality.
