The Common Ground project in East Perth is a 17-storey social housing complex designed to address homelessness and provide affordable housing. This development, commissioned by the Department of Communities, is part of Western Australia’s 10-year strategy to reduce homelessness. The project features 112 self-contained apartments, including studios and one-bedroom units, designed to support both low-income earners and individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness.

Our role in the project includes providing comprehensive structural engineering services. This involves post-tensioned concrete design, temporary works for crane installations, scaffolding, and preston decks, as well as concrete pump systems. We have also completed the precast design of the concrete columns and carried out a detailed peer review of the structural integrity of the entire building.

As a key sustainability measure, the design integrates energy efficiency elements to reduce operational costs for residents and management. Communal spaces include landscaped podiums, a communal dining area, and leasable spaces for on-site medical services, contributing to a supportive living environment.
