Our involvement in the Epsilon Tower, located on the Gold Coast, has been a cornerstone project for us since 2018. This engagement, under the umbrella of the Destination Gold Coast Consortium, alongside renowned DBI Architects and the construction giant Multiplex, has allowed us to showcase our expertise in structural engineering and temporary works on a grand scale.
The Epsilon Tower stands as a significant component of the Broadbeach casino redevelopment project, with an investment of $400M propelling its rise to 216 meters over 64 stories. This structure is not only a testament to modern design but also to the innovative engineering solutions required to bring such a vision to life. A notable challenge we encountered was the construction of the tower on an existing car park structure, which needed to remain operational throughout the process. Our team successfully provided structural strengthening to the existing car park, allowing for the addition of a new podium level above it. This task was further complicated by the requirement to extend the car park over Casino Drive without the use of any propping, necessitating creative and innovative design solutions, including the extensive use of precast components to facilitate this expansion.
The tower’s design posed its unique challenges, particularly due to its slender profile and the need for a core designed with outriggers to ensure human comfort. Our approach included the use of a full jump form extrusion, allowing the construction of all vertical elements simultaneously with the slab being constructed three levels below. This method was crucial in maintaining the project’s pace and efficiency.
Sustainability was a key consideration in our project strategy, notably through the reuse of an existing car park structure rather than opting for demolition. This decision underscores our commitment to sustainable practices and the minimization of our environmental footprint.
We are proud of our collaboration with Multiplex and look forward to continuing our partnership on future projects, drawing from our shared experiences and successes on projects like the Epsilon Tower.
