Royal George Apartments

The Royal George morgue, a significant heritage property in East Fremantle, purchased by Saracen Properties in 2017, is undergoing a transformation to restore it to its former glory and reaffirm its position as a cornerstone of the local George Street community. Our approved proposal encompasses a faithful restoration of the existing building to re-establish the Royal George as the social heart of the historic George Street precinct, featuring a unique hospitality experience with a restaurant, bar, and cellar.

In our role as the structural engineering consultants for the Royal George project, we are tasked with the structural engineering, heritage engineering, and temporary works associated with the renovation of the heritage-listed Royal George Hotel and the construction of a new apartment building on the site. This development, located in Perth, merges hotel-hospitality-residential purposes and is currently under design. Our project is notable for its complex heritage refurbishment, which includes both the restoration of the existing building and the addition of a contemporary apartment complex designed to integrate seamlessly with the heritage site.

Adding to this, a development of 23 boutique apartments will be situated in a contemporary zinc-clad building, thoughtfully designed to complement the original hotel structure. This new building is inspired by the character of the area, aiming to interpret rather than replicate the existing architectural vernacular. The project also includes enhancements to the surrounding public spaces and the introduction of new public artwork, ensuring a holistic revitalization of the area​​.
