At Hera Engineering, our commitment to delivering engineering solutions that are both innovative and sustainable is exemplified in our work on the Victoria & Albert Broadbeach project. Developed by Iris Capital, this $800 million residential development represents a new era for the Gold Coast, offering a sophisticated blend of luxury living and community-oriented spaces.

Our role in this project included structural engineering, specializing in post-tension design, top-down construction techniques, and managing temporary works. The project features two distinct towers: the East Tower, rising to 41 storeys, and the West Tower, reaching 67 storeys, both perched atop a six-level podium and encompassing six levels of basement.

One of the project’s hallmark features is the innovative top-down construction approach for the basement levels. This method not only accelerates the construction timeline but also ensures stability for neighbouring structures by mitigating surcharge effects. The tallest tower’s slender profile necessitated the incorporation of a liquid damper system to counteract wind-induced movements, showcasing our expertise in engineering solutions tailored to high-rise structures.

The luxury residences are supported by post-tensioned slabs, enabling large span distances that maximize internal space and offer unobstructed views, enhancing the living experience for occupants. Our involvement extends to overseeing all temporary works, ensuring that each phase of construction is executed safely and efficiently.

A key aspect of our engineering approach was the redesign of the project’s original plans to significantly reduce the amount of material required. This initiative has substantially lowered the permanent embedded carbon footprint of the development, aligning with our sustainability goals and setting a new standard for eco-friendly construction practices.

Our work on Victoria & Albert Broadbeach underscores Hera Engineering’s dedication to innovative, sustainable engineering solutions that enhance urban environments and contribute to the creation of vibrant, livable communities.
