The Woolworth Captain Stirling development in Nedlands is a retail project currently under construction, involving a combination of post-tensioned slabs and precast floor systems. Originally designed entirely with post-tensioned concrete, the builder later opted to modify the upper levels to hollow-core precast slabs to accelerate the construction timeline. We were responsible for re-engineering these levels while maintaining structural coherence across the system interfaces.

Our scope includes structural engineering, post-tension design, precast design, and temporary works. A significant aspect of our role was the integration of long-span slab systems to match Woolworths’ preferred column layout. This solution enabled increased spatial efficiency and avoided the need for transfer beams, aligning with project budget constraints and construction targets.

We also delivered the temporary works design to assist with construction staging and methodology. This included stability analysis and erection sequencing of the precast components, ensuring structural integrity at all phases. Our coordination with the architectural team enabled a unified grid design that streamlined load paths and eliminated unnecessary structural complexity. The project reflects our ability to adapt structural systems mid-design and maintain cost-effective delivery within the constraints of a fast-tracked construction programme.
