Yanchep Rail Extension and Thornlie-Cockburn Link

We are actively engaged in the construction phase of two significant METRONET projects in Perth: the Yanchep Rail Extension and the Thornlie-Cockburn Link, in collaboration with the NEWest Alliance. The Yanchep Rail Extension, a 14.5km addition to the existing Joondalup Line, includes new stations at Alkimos, Eglinton, and Yanchep. This extension is designed to support the rapid growth in Perth’s northern suburbs, offering a new transport option for over 150,000 residents and creating around 1,370 jobs. The Thornlie-Cockburn Link, spanning 14.5km, connects the Mandurah and Armadale lines, featuring new stations at Nicholson Road and Ranford Road and significant upgrades to Thornlie and Cockburn Central stations, thereby enhancing connectivity across Perth’s south eastern suburbs.

Our role in these projects focuses on providing temporary works and the modularization of structural steels for the stations. This modular approach has been instrumental in speeding up construction and reducing risks during steel erection. It allowed for pre-assembled steel components to be efficiently lifted into place during limited rail shutdown periods, thereby minimising disruptions to public transport​. Additionally, we have maintained a high level of responsiveness, being available at short notice for on-site inspections and to address any late queries, ensuring project timelines and safety standards are consistently met.

At Hera Engineering, our extensive experience in temporary works has been a cornerstone of the project’s success. By modularising structural steel, we have provided significant value through increased construction speed and reduced risks. This method ensured efficient assembly and erection during constrained rail shutdown periods, thus minimising disruptions to public transport services. Our ability to respond promptly to site needs and perform critical inspections on short notice has been pivotal in maintaining the project schedule and upholding safety standards​
