White Sands Scarborough receives DA approval

The project plans to redevelop the old White Sands Tavern and Thirsty Camel drive-through site on West Coast Highway. This $120 million design will feature a 29-storey northern tower and a 12-storey southern tower atop a three-level podium reserved for commercial and retail space, including a Woolworths supermarket and a drive-through BWS liquor store as anchor tenants.

The development would feature 332 apartments across both towers serviced by 353 residential carparks across two basement levels, with a medical centre, gym, childcare centre and 785 square metres of commercial space for cafes and restaurants also planned for the site.

Designed by MJA Studio and TRCB Architects for Woolworths Group, the project would be developed in two stages, the first of which would be the supermarket and retail space on the ground floor. Construction on the first stage would kick off mid-2023.

Hera Engineering is really proud to be part of this iconic project. The structural design has been challenging due to the various layouts between car parking, podium and residential. Vertical continuity has been demanding, but our team has developed a clever solution with minimum transfer elements.

We look forward to the next stage of this project!
