At Hera Engineering, we are committed to delivering structural engineering solutions that are both innovative and efficient. Our involvement with the UniLodge student accommodation project at Curtin University in Perth is a testament to this commitment. Tasked with providing structural engineering, temporary works, and post-tension design, our team played a crucial role in the project’s success.
Located in Perth, this 12-storey concrete structure serves as a residence for students, offering a blend of comfort and convenience in close proximity to the university’s vibrant campus life. Throughout the tender phase, our team was engaged by Probuild to review and significantly improve the existing structural design. Our innovative approach led to the complete redesign of the structural columns layout and the adoption of new construction methodologies. These changes not only resulted in considerable savings but also enhanced the speed of construction, demonstrating our ability to deliver value-added engineering solutions. We then got engaged to fully document the project and carry out the construction phase
A key aspect of our work on this project was the emphasis on sustainability. We achieved a 30% reduction in concrete volume and reinforcement, which substantially lowered the permanent embodied energy of the building. This was accomplished through the use of precast core walls and columns, underscoring our commitment to environmental stewardship and the promotion of sustainable construction practices.
Our efforts were instrumental in Probuild securing the project, and we are proud to have been chosen as the structural engineers responsible for bringing this vision to life. The Curtin University UniLodge is a prime example of how Hera Engineering’s expertise and innovative approach to structural engineering can contribute to the development of sustainable and efficient buildings in the educational sector.
