Not every successful structural solution needs to be complex.
At the completed Halcyon Wildflower Welcome Centre in Piara Waters, Hera Engineering provided structural engineering services for a building where the priority was practical, economical and well-coordinated design.
The Welcome Centre forms the first completed stage of Stockland’s Halcyon Wildflower, its first land lease community in Western Australia. Once complete, the broader community will include 288 architecturally designed homes for over-55s, supported by shared lifestyle, wellbeing and recreation amenities.
For the Welcome Centre, the structural system combines steel framing, masonry and lightweight construction to support the architectural layout while keeping the building efficient to deliver. The design focused on clear load paths, straightforward detailing and close coordination with the architectural and construction teams, allowing the structure to support the programme and budget without unnecessary complexity.
For community buildings like this, good engineering is often measured by how quietly it works: supporting the spaces people use every day, enabling efficient construction and allowing the architectural intent to come through clearly.
