Public Transport Operations Control Centre (PTOCC)

The Perth Transport Operations Control Centre (PTOCC) is a groundbreaking project underway in East Perth, Western Australia. This cutting-edge facility is set to revolutionize the management of Perth’s public transport network, which is poised for significant expansion with over 72 kilometres of new routes due to the METRONET projects.

Hera Engineering has played a pivotal role in the initial tender phase of PTOCC, leveraging our expertise to identify and execute value engineering opportunities. Our innovative solutions have enabled builder ADCO to offer more competitive pricing, thanks to our cost-effective design. This design has been meticulously refined into construction drawings, encompassing critical features such as post-tensioning, blast resistance, and temporary works.

One of the standout achievements of our design is the column-free bottom floor, which houses the main control center. This presented a significant challenge, requiring the design of specialized transfer post-tensioned beams to support the loads of the columns above, which in turn support the office building. Additionally, the structure had to be engineered to withstand blast loading, ensuring the safety and resilience of the facility.

The new control center is poised to significantly enhance the efficiency, safety, and overall performance of Perth’s public transportation system. As the network expands with the addition of various METRONET projects, this state-of-the-art facility will be instrumental in managing the seamless integration and operation of these new services.

PTOCC exemplifies the commitment of both the government and the engineering and construction firms involved to improve public transport infrastructure and meet the needs of Western Australia’s growing population. As the project progresses, it is set to redefine Perth’s transportation landscape and pave the way for sustainable and accessible mobility options for the community.
