Construction continues to progress steadily at the Woolworths Captain Stirling project, which is on track to become a vibrant community hub within Nedlands.
With construction commencing in early 2025 under ATLAS BUILDING (WA), the major structural works are now complete. Focus has shifted to the internal fit-out, with the retail and commercial tenancies becoming increasingly defined throughout the development.
Developed by Woolworths Group and designed by Hames Sharley, the project comprises a multi-storey structure accommodating a dynamic mix of uses, including car parking, a supermarket, retail tenancies, and gymnasium facilities. Each component has been carefully tailored to meet the needs of the local community.
Our involvement in the project has been comprehensive, encompassing all aspects of structural engineering design. The structure was carefully tailored to the builder’s requirements, utilising the most efficient structural systems while responding to the project’s specific constraints. Post-tensioned polished concrete floors were incorporated throughout the trading floor areas to achieve both functional and construction efficiencies.
At the builder’s request, precast concrete elements were extensively utilised across the project to suit their preferred construction methodology. Our team worked closely with the contractor to maximise off-site fabrication and onsite installation efficiency. The complexity of the project presented an exciting challenge, one that the Hera team successfully embraced and delivered.
A standout feature of the development is the innovative floor system incorporating hollow-core planks and Delta beams to the roof and parking deck. This represents a first-of-its-kind application in Western Australia and was strategically implemented to satisfy Woolworths’ specific trading floor requirements while maximising construction efficiency.
